A Message
From Our Patron
Winnie Kiap CBE
Dear Friends and Fellow Art Enthusiasts,
It is with immense pride and enthusiasm that I extend my heartfelt support to the launch of the Akis Art Prize,
a remarkable initiative by the Arts Society of Papua New Guinea. This competition not only honours the legacy of the pioneering artist Timothy Akis but also serves as a vibrant platform for all Papua New Guineans to express their creativity and share their visions for the future.
Art has always been a profound reflection of our identity, heritage, and aspirations. In Papua New Guinea, our diverse cultural expressions through song, dance, and visual arts are integral to who we are. The Akis Art Prize celebrates this richness, inviting artists of all ages and backgrounds to showcase their talents and contribute to the national narrative through their unique perspectives.
This year's theme, "Looking Forward - Dreams & Aspirations for the Future of PNG," resonates deeply with our collective hopes and dreams. It challenges us to envision a future where our cultural heritage is cherished, and our creative voices are heard and respected.
I commend the Arts Society of Papua New Guinea, our generous sponsors, and dedicated partners for their commitment to fostering artistic excellence and cultural unity. Your support ensures that the Akis Art Prize will inspire and uplift countless individuals across our nation.
To all participants, I encourage you to embrace this opportunity with passion and imagination. Your art has the power to connect, inspire, and transform. I look forward to witnessing the incredible works that will emerge from this competition and to celebrating the boundless creativity of Papua New Guinea.
With warmest regards,
Winnie Kiap
